The Association for Constructivist Teaching mourns the loss of the nine people whose lives were taken from us on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 in Charleston, South Carolina. Having held our 2014 conference in Charleston, we were warmed by the kindness of community members and want to share our condolences and warmest embraces to their families, their church family, and the people of Charleston, South Carolina.
We know that our words of love are not enough and action is required. As constructivist teachers we pledge ourselves to working with students to construct an understanding of racial equity in our world. We know this will not be an easy task but feel responsible to educate the adults of the future so they will strive for a better world.
As our hearts break and we feel a sense of hopelessness that is difficult to ignore, know that we, as educators, will move forward – in our programs, our courses, and our communities to fulfill our role as a part of the hope that our schools and children need.
